A Precarious Arrangement of Matter is an interactive e-textiles (electronic textiles) artwork inspired by the image ‘All Pillars Point to Eta’ (NASA ID: PIA03515). This piece develops on from É-toile (2023). Instead of static star-scapes, the stars in É-toile [Light and Sound flicker in response to sound. Optical fibres knitted into the fabric form wispy nebulas. Layers of fabric are used to convey the depth of space, as light is diffused through layers of sheer and dense fabrics. It is currently a work in progress piece, as the programming of the sound reactive lights need to be adjusted according to sound in the exhibition, and the arrangement of electronics and fabrics hopes to become less precarious.
